Program planning and implementation:
Academic and clinical components of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
have been designed to provide each Student with a firm foundation upon which to
grow. The placement of courses within the curriculum, the course content and
the course outlines are all designed to provide students with a course of study
that builds on what was taught previously. Course goals and objectives will be
reviewed annually and revised, if necessary. Course content will be reviewed to
ascertain accuracy and validity. Sections will be revised to either eliminate
or add material.
The Clinical Competency program offered at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center
Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is very complete and matches each of the
didactic courses taught on a semester basis. Although we have a number of
clinical affiliates, we assure that the students’ clinical education experience
includes a wide variety of sonographic studies. The clinical Instructor will
make clinical rounds to assure compliance with the educational philosophy.
Evaluations are in place to assure that the students are not participating in
procedures beyond their didactic level of competency. The program monitors the
clinical education setting for numbers of procedures appropriate for the level
of student assigned.
Each clinical site is designed to provide services for the community in which
it is located. With this basic by important concept in mind, the Diagnostic
Medical Sonography Program will rotate the students in such a way as to provide
a well-balanced clinical experience. It is our intent to give each and every
student a well-rounded Ultrasound education, clinically as well as well as
didactically.
