The Career Ladder Track is designed for the licensed practical nurse (LPN) who wishes to continue studies to be eligible to sit for the registered nurse (RN) licensure examination. The program builds on existing knowledge, skills and strengths. Students are admitted fall (September) and spring (January) and may attend the general education portion part-time or full-time, day or evening.

Upon matriculation into the nursing (clinical) portion of the program, students can attend day or evening with the exception of the first nursing course, LPN Transition Course, NURM 120, which is offered days only.

This three week course begins in May and finishes in mid-June. Upon successful completion of the 4-credit LPN Transition Course, NURM 120, students will receive advanced standing for an additional 4 credits from NURM 121. One credit of advanced standing is awarded for Math for Pharmacology (NURM 100).

Students are then eligible to take a challenge examination for NURM 122 (Nursing II) and if successful, gain advanced standing for Nursing II. Failure to pass the challenge examination will require the student to take NURM 122 (Nursing II). Failure to achieve a “C” or better in the LPN Transition Course, (NURM 120), will require the student to take NURM 119 (Introduction to Nursing Concepts) and NURM 121 (Nursing I).

Effective March 1, 1998, Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Nursing and Union County College have a written articulation agreement which facilitates the transition of students from the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Union County College to the Associate in Science/Diploma program offered collaboratively by Union County College and Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Nursing.

Those students who graduated from the LPN Program after August 1997 and who have followed the LPN to RN track of the Union County College LPN Program will be granted admission to Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Nursing. Upon successful completion of NURM 120 (Transition Course) and the required pre-requisite Associate in Science degree courses, this student will be awarded advanced standing in NURM 121 and NURM 122 and will be eligible for entry into NURM 221.
